2017 Barrel Select Viognier

2017 Barrel Select Viognier
2017 Barrel Select Viognier

We take our best barrels from a mix of French oak and stainless steel to create our signature Rhone-style white wine. The fruit for our Viognier comes from Lonesome Spring Ranch just outside the Red Mountain AVA, where long hot days and cool, clear nights create the ideal growing environment. Aromatic yet restrained, this wine has a rich mouth feel while retaining a crispiness that gives it the perfect balance.

Tasting notes

Clean, clear, and honey-blonde in hue, a swirl then a sniff of this Viognier transports the taster to the tropics. Passion fruti and guava. Ripe juicy pineapple and sweet jasminte. At mid-pallet the slightest lemon sensation spritzes the tongue. This medium weight wine with enough Viognier viscosity to satisfy a classicist, it pairs perfectly with chicken, pork tenderloin, or salmon -- topped with a mango salsa.

Production notes

Vineyard: Lonesome Spring Ranch Vineyard, Benton City, Washington  (Yakima Valley)

Fermentation: Fruit was hand sorted at the winery and pressed whole cluster.  Juice was settled in poly tanks for two days and then racked into neutral French oak barrels and one 260 gallon stainless steel tank. The wine was innoculated and fermentation took place over the course of three weeks.

Cellar: Wine was fermented until dry and left on the lees (sur lees) throughout the course of cellaring, with occasional barrel stirring.  After seven months, wine was racked and filtered prior to bottling.

Editor’s Choice – Excellent (90 pts.) - Washington Tasting Room Magazine

"Old World in style, there’s a sheen of stony minerality and limestone that coat the mouthwatering palate, followed by restrained flavors of peach, honeydew melon and lemon citrus enlivened by crisp acidity that accompanies the finish with hints of lanolin."
